Announcer: We're the Health Squad: Dr. Ali, Dr. Kara and Don Bashir.
Announcer: Charlene has type 2 diabetes, which combined with the way she lives, spells trouble.
Dr. Ali: How you feeling?
Charlene: Pretty good. Doesn't feel like exercise at all.
Dr. Ali: Exactly.
Charlene: Come on, Charlie.
Announcer: We taught Charlene that stress and diabetes don't mix.
Dr. Kara: This is a biofeedback machine.
Charlene: What does that mean, bio?
Dr. Kara: This is going to help you slowly decrease your rate of breathing.
Charlene: Okay.
Dr. Kara: So, it's a little 15-minute mini-vacation. You're just going to hear some relaxing music in your ears, and you can just let your breathing go with the music, and it's going to help slow down and relax.
Charlene: At first I was like, "What is this," but actually it really works, and I felt really calm, and it was good. I want that.
Don Bashir: All right. Get up in my chair.
Announcer: After teaching Charlene the importance of diet, exercise, and relaxation, it was time to see what had soaked in.
Don Bashir: Do you really think that us coming here and giving you the tools to help better your life is going to work?
Charlene: I know what I have to do, but I don't think I've kind of soaked it in yet.
Dr. Ali: That's exactly what we're here to do. We're here to have you think for yourself and decide this for yourself. It's not for anybody else. This is about your taking care of you.
Charlene: I just need to integrate it like it's just a part of me, rather then making it something like, "Oh, no. That's not me. Diabetes, it's not me." I think I just need to have an attitude adjustment.
Charlene: I'm really going to give this a try.
Announcer: Charlene Yang, type 2 diabetes. Another day, another job for the Health Squad.
